BecA Hub Facilities Upgrade Project
The BecA Hub is currently undergoing a major upgrading of its facilities. As well as renovating existing laboratories to meet current safety and design standards, new facilities are being added, including bio-containment labs (BSL2 and 3), plant facilities (screen house, green house and phytotron), new offices and a renovated conference hall. The Upgrade Project is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and in part by BecA Hub.
The new facilities will include:
- New laboratory and greenhouse bio-containment facilities for safe manipulation of plants, animals, microbes and parasites
- New molecular diagnostics suite
- Centralized molecular biology/genotyping/sequencing laboratory
- Modern biosciences training laboratory
- New Central Core facility (media & glasswash)
Aside from construction, a large part of the upgrade budget is dedicated to the procurement and installation of state-of-the-art biosciences equipment.
