Research Technician (crops) Speciality Area: Plant molecular biology Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Bramwel Waswa Wanjala joins the BecA-Hub as a Research Technician. Mr. Wanjala brings a wealth of experience in Plant molecular biology techniques. He began his career at the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) - Biotechnology center where he was involved in supporting day-to-day research activities, providing technical support to scientists and technical backstopping to graduate and postgraduate students. He has been involved in a number of projects including Genetic engineering of Sweet potato resistance to viruses, Tissue culture and Marker assisted selection on various crops. He was awarded Graduate Fellowship (June, 2009-May, 2010) Biosciences Eastern and Central Africa (BecA)-ILRI Hub, where he Fingerprinted Napier grass accessions -a project funded by ASARECA. In March-April, 2008; he was a Technical Associate: BECA-ILRI Hub providing technical support and hands on training to a visiting graduate student undertaking Sweet potato genotyping. As a visiting scientist at the International Institute for Tropical Agricultural – IITA (June-December2007) he worked on genetic characterization of Cassava for the Kenya Germplasm. In addition he has trained others in Biosafety and Marker assisted selection. Currently he is a graduate student at Egerton University pursuing an Msc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and working on development of molecular markers for genotyping Napier grass for his dissertation. Mr.Wanjala has interests in conservation genetics and aspires to nurture his career towards that line.
