David Oyoo Ezra is the Central Core Unit Coordinator where he provides essential services like tissue culture media, microbiological plates, buffers, media broths, antibiotics and ultra pure grade water for all the laboratories in the BecA Hub.
  • He manages the budgets and resources within the unit, including the unit staff to ensure work is carried out in an effective and efficient manner.
  • He plans work and monitors the unit’s activities by ensuring adequate supply and monitoring the use of all products formulated, and services offered by the unit.
  • He provides haematology services using Helios Blood Analyzer to analyze blood samples that generate data to scientists studying animal health.
  • He monitors and controls the use of laboratory supplies, chemicals, reagents and water plant consumables used within the unit.
  • He is also responsible for waste management for all the laboratories within the BecA Hub, ensuring the biological waste from the laboratories is decontaminated before being disposed of.
  • He monitors the safety and good laboratory practices within the Central Core Unit.

David Oyoo Ezra is a Research Technician by profession. He was trained at the Kenya Polytechnic, Nairobi as Laboratory Technician and has attended various inhouse training courses on handling and operation of laboratory equipment. In 2008, he attended a course on best practice laboratory management.

David worked at the International Laboratory for Research on Animal Diseases (ILRAD), Nairobi from 1977-1995 as a Technical Assistant and later, as a Research Technician. Subsequently, he worked at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) from 1995 to date. He is currently the Central Core Unit Coordinator. He has over 25 years of experience on the preparation of tissue culture media, glassware treatment, sterilization, waste management and ultra pure water production. He also enjoys training new staff and students on media and buffer preparation.
