Evelyn Atieno took up the position of Technical Assistant in 2007, where she is responsible for tracking preventive maintenance and relocation of laboratory equipment, laboratory chemical usage, equipment and laboratory consumable purchase orders and monitoring of the temperatures of the deep freezers. She is also responsible for the updating of databases for laboratory equipment and biological materials in storage in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
She completed a course in Science Laboratory Technology at the Kenya Polytechnic University College in 2004. After graduating, she volunteered as a Technical Assistant in the Herbarium department at National Museums of Kenya. Between 2005 and 2006, she joined ILRI as an Intern where she gained experience in Molecular Biology techniques and also assisted in organization of biological samples inventory. She also assisted with the preparation of the laboratories for the CIDA-commissioned Environmental Health and Safety audit by PharmEng from Canada.
She has done Science Laboratory Technology, Bioinformatics in Software Programming and currently taking Technology in Biotechnology at The Kenya Polytechnic University College, Nairobi Kenya.
She likes to assist people solve their problems whenever she can, as fast as she can.
