Dr Mary Fletcher is an organic chemist by training, and leads the Natural Toxin group within the Queensland Alliance for Agricultural and Food Innovation (QAAFI) at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. She obtained her PhD from The University of Queensland and has worked as a research chemist at both The University of Queensland and Queensland Government Department of Primary Industries, before joining QAAFI in 2010

Fletcher has specialist expertise in the use of LC-MS/MS and GC-MS for the analysis of low level natural toxin contaminants. Her current work focuses on the identification and analysis of natural toxins in a range of plants, fungi and agricultural products. She has a particular interest in the potential for such toxins (particularly mycotoxins) to affect both human and animal health and pose risks to agricultural production, food safety and market access. She played a key role in the BecA-ILRI Hub's Australian funded Capacity and Action for Aflatoxin Reduction in Eastern Africa (CAAREA) project (2011-2015), specifically in the establishment of an aflatoxin analysis facility in Nairobi and also the supervision of associated Australian funded PhD students at The University of Queensland.
