Associate Professor at the Reed College, USA

Dr Sarah Schaack is an Associate Professor at the Reed College, USA. Her research aims at understanding the dynamics of spontaneous mutations (the rate, spectrum, and effects of errors caused during DNA damage or replication), with special attention to those mutations caused by mobile DNA. Her projects rely on a combination of live animal experimentation, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and fieldwork.

Schaak’s research collaborations with students, postdocs, colleagues at other institutions, and scientists abroad have led to discoveries, publications, and numerous diverse post-baccalaureate opportunities for students at her home institution. Her key collaboration with BecA-ILRI Hub scientists is on the Busseola fusca whole genome sequence project initiated in 2014.
