Plant Growth Facility
The BecA-ILRI Hub Plant Growth Facility is approximately 1400m2 and consists of a greenhouse, screenhouse, growth chambers and growth rooms.
Specific plant components include:
Greenhouse: three non containment compartments and three containment compartments each 37m2 controlled and monitored by an Argus computer-automated greenhouse control system designed specifically to control the highly dynamic climate variables in the greenhouse.
Conviron Growth Chambers: two reach-in plant growth chambers.
Screenhouse: the 128m2 screenhouse facility is covered with retractable thermal screens to enhancelight intensity adjustments depending on the plant requirements.

The Plant Growth Facility is managed on the following principles:
Goal – To use an Integrated Pest Management approach to achieve optimum plant growth and provide excellent facilities and services in support of the research staff.
Vision – To operate a state of the art plant growth facility providing the highest quality research plants.
Focus – A proactive service-oriented approach that will anticipate the needs of the growth facility users.
Recharges
Our greenhouse rate is $650 per compartment per month for
the non containment compartments and $710 per compartment per month for the
containment compartments. The screenhouse is charged at $3.03 per m2 per month
and the growth chambers are charged at $3.30 per chamber per day.
How to Request Space
Use of the plant facility space is limited by
assignment. To request use of greenhouse, screenhouse or growth chamber space,
fill and submit the Plant Facility Service Request Form. The request must include the square metres of bench space needed, the
beginning date and duration of the project, plants to be grown, name of a
contact person, and any requirements for plant care. Please request space 30
days in advance.
