Sheila Okoth is a mycologist whose research interests include capacity building in mycology for sustainable utilization and development, promoting sustainable land use and biodiversity through utilization of fungal bio-stimulants and bio-control agents in agriculture and forest landscapes, and biosafety from fungal metaobolites in plant and animal products. 

 

Dr. Okoth has worked as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Nairobi, Kenya since 2002.  She also holds the position of National Coordinator of the GEF Global project on “Conservation and Sustainable Management of Below-ground Biodiversity Project (CSM-BGBD).”  In addition to this work, Dr. Okoth is a researcher in the Safe Food Safe Dairy Project, funded by the government of Finland.

 

She is a Fellow of the Society of Biology in the United Kingdom, as well as a member of the Kenya National Academy of Sciences.  Dr. Okoth is also a recipient of an African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) competitive fellowship.
