Dr Richard Oduor is the National Chair of Kenya University Biotechnology Consortium and serves as a Senior Lecturer and Head of Plant Transformation Laboratory in the department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at Kenyatta University. 

Oduor holds a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from University of Cape Town. His PhD research involved genetic transformation of Black Mexican sweetcorn, tobacco and maize for functional analyses of a stress-inducible promoter isolated from the resurrection plant (Xerophyta viscosa). The novel promoter was patented by the World Intellectual Property Organization and is currently being used at the plant transformation laboratory at Kenyatta University to develop transgenic maize and sweet potato against drought stress. Furthermore, Oduor undertook postdoctoral research training, in drug discovery at Pfizer, UK, where he focused on pre-clinical research involving lead optimization for Malaria and Trypanosomiasis.  

Richard Oduor also holds an Executive Masters of Science in Management and Organizational Development from United States International University, Kenya; a Graduate Diploma in Forensic Sciences from Blackford Institute, UK and a certificate in Science communication from University of Cape Town. He has supervised several graduate students and developed transgenic plants to overcome various production constraints, and has widely published in the discipline.
