Collins Mutai

Collins Mutai is a research associate at the BecA-ILRI Hub supporting Swedish funded ‘Climate-smart Brachiaria grasses for improving livestock production in East Africa’ project. Prior to joining this project, Collins provided support to the “Harnessing genetic diversity for improved goat productivity” project also funded by the Swedish Government.

Before joining the BecA-ILRI Hub, Collins worked for the Kenya Medical Research Institute as a research assistant within the Center for Virus Research. During this period, his work focused on molecular characterization of vector-borne viruses (arboviruses) of medical and veterinary importance including outbreak investigation, routine surveillance and vector biology.

He holds a BSc degree in Biomedical Technology from the University of Nairobi and an MSc degree in Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom. His MSc project focused on the molecular characterization of Bluetongue virus capping protein (VP4) and its interaction with other Bluetongue proteins.
